Lead Designer

The Lead Designer is a management position at Smallworks Studios & Laneway Housing Inc.

Roles and Expectations

The Lead Designer’s principle role at Smallworks is to help achieve the company’s key goal of designing and building exemplary and beautiful small homes.

The expectation is that the Lead Designer, alongside his/her team, will consistently improve Smallworks’ pre-construction processes and small home designs.

The Lead Designer is expected to start designs on at least one new project a month and will be responsible for managing that project throughout the design process, including co-ordination with Smallworks project managers and city staff, and with the construction team as required.

In addition to these core duties, the Lead Designer is responsible for managing the Smallworks design team, acting as both a resource and a goal-setter for the team, and will perform ongoing design reviews to help foster the best work from each designer while meeting time line targets.

In collaboration with the CEO and the production manager, the Lead Designer is responsible for the completion of production targets.

Responsibilities:
• Meet weekly to review targets with other designers
• Bi-monthly meetings for global design review
• Monthly meetings for production reviews
• Work with production manager to establish quarterly and monthly targets

Qualifications:
• Design professional for over 6 years
• Architectural training
• Professional accreditation
• Strong knowledge of LWH and in fill bylaws
• Proficient in Vectorworks
• Strong leadership, communications, and organizational skills
• Good people skills
• Client management
• Management of staff

Architectural Technologist/Designer
Level of Experience: Junior to Intermediate

August 23, 2017

We are looking for an energetic full time architectural technologist, preferably with a minimum of 1 – 2 years local experience and with the following skills:
– Certificate/ Degree/ Diploma in Architecture/ Architectural Technology
– Knowledge of local codes BCBC & VBBL
– Preparing working drawings, building permit submissions, tender and construction documents
– Proficiency in Vectorworks, Sketch Up and all Microsoft applications (Excel, Word etc.)
– Liaise with clients, subcontractors, consultants and municipalities
– Good written and oral communication skills
– Ability to work independently and within a team
– Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills
