Junior Accountant

Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Junior Accountant to join our team. This role is crucial in maintaining the financial health of the organization by managing daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of transactions, and providing support for payroll and project reporting. This role has the potential to grow as the organization expands, looking for an individual interested in pursuing a career in accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks spanning Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and general ledger functions:
- Accounts Payable (AP):
- Accurately enter and process vendor invoices and credit card receipts.
- Review and process employee expense claims.
- Prepare and execute weekly cheque runs and electronic payments.
- Accounts Receivable (AR):
- Coordinate the AR process, generate and issue client invoices.
- Record and process incoming payment receipts.
- Prepare and make timely bank deposits.
- General Ledger & Reporting:
- Assist with payroll support and related allocation entries.
- Prepare and post various journal entries, including recurring entries.
- Perform monthly journal entries for deferred revenue calculations.
- Support management by compiling information for project reporting.
- Administration:
- Act as the primary contact for resolving client and vendor inquiries related to invoices and payments.
- Communication
- Act as the main contact for clients on invoicing, payments, and cost inquiries.
- Coordinate with the Production team to confirm expenses and resolve discrepancies.
- Communicate with Design and Construction teams on project progress and changes affecting invoicing.
- Provide timely updates to internal teams on project financial status and outstanding payments.
- Maintain responsive, professional communication with clients, vendors, and trades.
Required Qualifications
- Collaborative personality with a consistently positive, can-do attitude and a strong willingness to contribute wherever needed in support of team and organizational goals.
- 3 years of progressive experience in bookkeeping or general accounting.
- Strong working knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
- Proficiency with Quickbooks accounting software, Microsoft Excel and the Google suite of tools (knowledge of Construction Online an asset).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience assisting with payroll processing.
- Knowledge of deferred revenue principles.
